The Internal Affairs Division of the Chicago Police Department is investigation how Chicago Tribune photographer Terrence James’s cameras were damaged by a Chicago Police officer while he was covering the fatal shooting of an 18 year old at about 10pm.

According to Mr. James while on a public way he was told to leave the scene by an officer. While continuing to take photographs the officer knocked one of his Canon cameras to the ground and removed the other Canon from Mr. James throwing it approximately 30 feet down the street. Both cameras were destroyed.

Police spokeswoman Monique Bond said Photographs taken by James seconds before the incident show numerous police officers present, and determining if they were witnesses will be part of the investigation.
